People Testing [Ep 039]

Uncategorized Jun 13, 2019

This week, we’re going to build off last week’s podcast: Being Secure in an Insecure World.  Last week, we covered how people often project their insecurities onto other people.  It’s often done inadvertently.  But how people feel about themselves, and what makes them insecure, is how they want you to feel and what they want you to feel insecure about.  As we continue to grow spiritually, we’re going to encounter a lot of people tests.  Because dealing with people tests is a part of life, so we must learn to deal with people appropriately in order to prevent them from becoming a distraction to our spiritual lives.  And to prevent them from taking control of our lives and robbing us of our peace, joy, and stability.

Being Secure in an Insecure World [Ep 038]

Uncategorized Jun 07, 2019

Security. Everyone seeks it, but very few will ever find it.  Whether we acknowledge it or not, we’re an insecure race of people.  I’m talking about the entire human race.  All of us.  At some point in our lives, we’ve come face to face with our own insecurities.  And right now, whether we admit it or not, insecurities have had a major impact on our lives.  Now, what do I mean by insecurity?  Well, all insecurities stem from fear.  Fear of failure, fear of not being “good enough,” fear of missing out, fear of what other people will think, fear of not having enough, or fear of death. And those are just some of the fears that we all deal with.  That we all, eventually, must confront.

Parable of the Sower [Ep 036]

Uncategorized May 25, 2019

The Parable of the Sower is found in Matthew chapter 13 and Luke chapter 8.  Jesus spoke this parable many, many times which explains the slight differences between the account of Luke and the account of Matthew.  And by looking at both accounts, we can better arrive at the meaning of the Parable. First what is the context?  Who is Jesus speaking to?  And what is Jesus speaking about?

"Your Body Is a Temple" Explained [Ep 035]

Uncategorized May 18, 2019

Today, our society places a lot of emphasis on what we look like, or on our outward appearance.  Every day, we turn on the television and we’re inundated with TV shows and commercials that sell us on a new diet or workout program.  They’re accompanied by a message that says, “Follow this diet or this workout program and you’ll be happy and self-confident.  You’ll live a much better life.”  This message is repeated on billboards, magazines, and in our day to day conversations with other people.  Unfortunately, many people (especially young women) struggle with the idea that they must look a certain way in order to be “good enough.” Undoubtedly, the effects of our culture have contributed to an array of eating disorders and an emphasis on physical food over God’s spiritual food.  Thankfully, as believers in Christ, we are “good enough” to possess eternal life by simple faith alone in...

Faith and Works [Ep 034]

Uncategorized May 09, 2019

Faith and Works.  That’s the subject of this week’s podcast.  The passage we’ll cover is James chapter 2 verses 14 through 26. It’s one of the most controversial passage in the Bible.  It’s a battleground passage for those who believe in salvation by faith alone in Christ alone and those who do not.  For centuries, Christians have debated its meaning.  And early in Martin Luther’s career, he proclaimed the epistle of James to be “strawy,” or confusing.  Indeed, today, many Christians are confused.  What does James mean when he says, “faith without works is dead?”  Does this contradict the teaching of the Apostle Paul? For Paul says in Ephesians 2:8,9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.”  Are Paul and James in disagreement regarding faith and...

Existence of Evil [Ep 033]

Uncategorized May 02, 2019

A very common question asked by unbelievers, and even some believers, is how can a good God allow evil to exist?  Every day, we watch the news and see the existence of evil in the human race. Recently, we witnessed the attacks on Easter in Sri Lanka that killed over 250 people.  Or, instead of watching the news, we can read our history books and learn about horrific events that happened such as the Holocaust.  Or, we look around us and see tremendous poverty and suffering.  Right now, I’m serving in an area of the world that has seen non-stop, relentless poverty and suffering.  And perhaps some of you listening to this podcast have personally endured horrible suffering in your life.  You’ve been the victim of persecution and pure evil.  But does the existence of evil mean that God doesn’t exist?  Or does it mean that God is not love or lacks the power to stop evil from occurring.  Well, let’s provide answers...

Baptism Explained [Ep 032]

Uncategorized Apr 27, 2019

Welcome back to the You Make Me Strong podcast!  In this episode, we’re going to cover baptism.  What does the Bible have to say about baptism?  What does baptism mean?  And do we need to be baptized in order to be saved?  These are questions that we’re going to answer today. And I think it’s imperative that I devote an entire podcast to the topic of baptism.  Because there’s a lot of confusion in Christian churches today this topic.

The Prodigal Son [Ep 031]

Uncategorized Apr 18, 2019

In this parable, we’re going to learn about two types of believers: the immoral believer and the legalistic believer.  And both are carnal believers.  Both are walking by means of the Flesh rather than by means of the Spirit.  However, God's grace extends to all believers in Christ.  And recovery of fellowship with God is easy.  Because grace is easy.

Is Being Good "Good Enough?" [Ep 030]

Uncategorized Apr 12, 2019

Most people, even Christians, can’t fathom how God can sentence a good person to hell.  In our fallen world, we admire people who are good citizens.  People who help other people.  People who fight for a good cause.  People that serve.  People that appear humble.  From the outside, it all looks good.  We say to ourselves, truly God has a place in heaven for such a good person.  But does He?  Is being good, “good enough” to earn God’s grace and entry into heaven?
